Sit your PDA in Lisa’s dual-control car
The Department of Transport doesn’t provide a car for your Practical Driving Assessment. Hire Lisa’s instead, automatic or manual, with a warm-up drive first if you’d like one.

Choose how you’d like to do it
Both options use Lisa’s dual-control car for your test.
- Sit your PDA in Lisa’s dual-control car
- Automatic or manual
- Meet at the test centre (ask about pick-up)
- 45-minute practice in the car you’ll be tested in
- 15 minutes of coaching before your test
- Get used to the car and the roads around the centre
Short-notice and pick-up packages are on the prices page.

Using your own car?
The Department of Transport won’t supply one, so your car must meet the rules. Is your car suitable for your PDA?
PDA car hire FAQs
What is the PDA?
The Practical Driving Assessment is a 35-minute on-road test with a Department of Transport assessor. It checks that you can control the car, use the road rules, fit in with other traffic, and spot and respond to hazards.
What is a warm-up drive before the PDA?
It’s a short lesson just before your test, in the car you’ll be tested in and around the test centre. The car and the area feel familiar, so you go in calmer.
Can I hire the car if I haven’t had lessons with Lisa?
The $110 and $190 prices are for current students. If you haven’t learned with Lisa, call her to check availability. A few lessons first is the best preparation: you’ll know the car and learn to avoid common test mistakes.
Which test centres does Lisa go to?
Joondalup, Mirrabooka and City West (West Perth), and other Perth licensing centres if you ask. Travel charges apply outside Joondalup, Mirrabooka and City West.
Is the car insured?
Yes. Dovetail Driving School cars are fully insured and maintained.
How far ahead should I book?
As soon as you have your PDA date. Lisa is the only instructor, so her diary fills up. Bookings made 7 to 14 days before your test are charged at the short-notice rate.
